Our home is in the historic Old Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago. There is plenty of public transportation including the Metra train (18 minutes to downtown), the CTA blue line train (35 minutes to downtown), and lots of buses. A short walk takes you to two parks, three swimming pools, tennis courts, the historic Portage Theater , shopping at Sears, and wonderful restaurants.

HOLIDAY SPECIAL!!!!!! Is your dorm closing over winter break? Want to visit Chicago and you're on a budget? We have the answer! Lori's homestay is offering a special short-term holiday arrangement: Shared rooms, including food (one prepared evening meal), wifi, TV room, etc etc. $45/night. Space is limited so contact us through bedycasa or facebook com to reserve your place.

We offer you the best of Americana here in our bungalow in our quiet, friendly, safe, historic neighborhood. Mom (Lori) works in the non-profit sector; Ben and Claire are in high school.

Our family loves internationals and we like to have a house full of young people. We like to learn about other cultures and share our own. We have hosted students from Mexico, France, India, Bahrain, and Yemen, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Venezuela, and mom grew up in a homestay family. We like traveling, hanging out with friends, riding bikes, swimming, movies, music, pretty typical stuff.

Meals are included in the homestay. Breakfast and lunch are “self-service” and a homestyle dinner is served every evening. One of these nights may be a pizza or Chinese take-out. If you decide that you want to go out with friends and experience our wonderful array of restaurants here in Chicago, just let me know by marking the calendar!

AMENITIES

There are two TV rooms. The room in the basement (we call in the “Yellow Room”) is open to everyone, and there are also video games. The living room on the first floor is also open to guests. Most of the rooms have a direct internet connection, but there is also wireless internet. In addition, we have a subscription to NetFlix for “instant play” movies on your laptop.

The laundry room is open and a laundry basket will be provided in your room. The cleaning lady will launder your sheets and towels once a week and tidy up your room.

ROOMS

Each room includes a desk, a lamp, a bed with linens, a closet and a place to put your books and other items.

Ground floor, Yellow Room
This bright, sunny room is perfect for a student! It has a big closet, plenty of shelves, a built-in desk, wireless internet and a TV with satellite service. The bathroom is shared by one additional person and includes a bathtub/shower. $800* per month.

Ground floor, Blue Room
We also have a lovely, large room with two closets, a desk, shelves, and wireless internet. The bathroom is shared by one additional person and includes a bathtub/shower. $800* per month.

Second floor rooms
Two recently remodeled private rooms that accommodate female students. Shared bathroom.
