Only 5 km from the center of Florence, the old mill of the thirteenth century, spends quiet days on the banks of the Arno. Only the background murmur of the river you whisper in the ears! Located near a small village is completely surrounded by green countryside. A lovely outdoor garden and a hearty breakfast awaits you in the morning and you will spend a pleasant stay with family.
The B & B can be both an ideal base to visit Florence or a starting point for hiking or walking and cycling in the Florentine countryside.The garden is a pleasant break after a day visiting monuments and museums. A few hundred meters guests have at their disposal, without having to use a car, an excellent restaurant, bar, pharmacy and various other shops, in addition to the movies. Availability of bicycles for walks or to Florence on the beautiful bike path on the banks of the Arno. The bus stop within 200 meters will allow you to reach the center of Florence, with departures every 15 minutes.

You seemed like an old friend from the moment we met you at the train station. Our nights in Girone helped make the days in Firenze much more bearable, and La Martellina was the perfect end to our trip. We send this small gift to provide you with a little piece of United States heritage. We purchased it at our local center for Native Americans. It is handmade by a Cherokee Indian. The material is sweet grass and pine needles. Remember your friends in faraway Kansas when you look at it. Thank you again for a wonderful experience on the Arno. Our 4 night stay at La Martellina was very much the highlight of the trip. Claudio is a wonderful host, and his dog, Emilio, is thoroughly adorable. The surroundings and the building itself are every bit as beautiful as the pictures depict. And waking up to the sound of the river Arno is an experience in itself. Claudio also spares no effort in the preparation of his breakfasts. Knowing that Asians like to have rice, he specially cooked some for us every morning. He even made pancakes for some of the other American guests. We found it hard to leave the breakfast table every morning, and starting your day early in Florence is a challenge. But that's a happy problem. In all, I recommend La Martellina if you are looking to have some experience of living in the Italian countryside and do not mind making the 25 minute bus journey into the town centre.

Fiesole

Beaucoup de gens qui s'arrêtent à Florence ne pensent pas faire une halte à Fiesole, grossière erreur. Située sur une colline au-dessus de Florence, elle offre un beau panorama sur cette derrière mais pas que... On y trouve comme partout un Duoma mais pas que... On y découvre également des vestiges étrusques et romains dont un théâtre parfaitement conservé. Le tout est à l'origine d'un musée d'art et d'histoire (avis surtout aux grands amateurs, d'art chrétien notamment). Fiesole peut être une excuse parmi d'autres en Toscane pour aller vadrouiller en campagne au hasard.
